A morning
A morning at Jute
The order stays the same from day to day, so children know what comes next. On school-day afternoons, threes and fours eat lunch from home, rest on cushions and play again.
- 8:30
Step 1: Hello at the door
A teacher greets each child by name and helps with the backpack. Children choose where to begin.
- 8:45
Step 2: A long stretch of play
Blocks, the kitchen, the art table, the book corner. Teachers sit at the children's level and join in when asked.
- 10:00
Step 3: Circle and story
Songs, a story with puppets and the plan for the day. Children sit as close as they like.
- 10:30
Step 4: Snack
Children serve themselves at a low table, and a teacher eats with them.
- 10:50
Step 5: The yard
The yard in the cool of the morning, with the mud kitchen, the sandbox and the shade.
- 11:45
Step 6: Goodbye
A last song, a look back at the morning and a word with each family at the door.
Circle and story
Songs, puppets and a story
Circle is the one time the whole room sits together, and it is short.
A teacher plays a small guitar or taps a drum, and the children sing the songs they know and make up new verses. Then there is a story, often told with puppets, and a look at what the day holds. Children who would rather watch from the edge are welcome to.

Afternoons
The school day, after lunch
Threes and fours who stay for the school day have a longer, quieter second half.
Lunch from home
Children eat together at the low tables, and a teacher eats with them.
Rest
Cushions, soft music and a book for anyone who wants one. Nobody has to sleep.
More play
The yard again when it is cool enough, and the corners of the room the rest of the time.
Watch a morning
Tours are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
